Simply the best donuts I've ever had! Last week one of our customers surprised us with Country donuts. They were literally gone in 10 minutes. I have to admit, donuts are my weakness... I had 3. The old fashions melt in your mouth.

    Awesome Donuts.

Best donuts since moving from Texas! I wrote that a few weeks back and have since returned weekly. My favorite are the honeydips (glazed yeast donuts) and my husband likes the yeast donuts dredged in plain sugar. The store tends to be extremely busy but the line does move very quickly and is worth the 5-10 minute wait. I would love if the store had a larger sitting area but it doesn't take away from the donuts.

Omg I am so obsessed with this place! 24 hours and a drive through. I've been to many donut shops and this one never seems to fail me! Everything is absolutely perfect! They have a few chairs outside and a seating area inside for your snack or breakfast. The donuts are ALWAYS fresh and oh so heavenly. I'm in love. That is all.

  • Colleen H.

My favorite donuts ever! I buy them for my team and they love them. I'll wake up early just to get there early on the weekend!!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE Country Donuts! My husband and I love their coffee, they have buttermilk donuts, and 2 kinds seasonal apple donuts. Their blueberry muffins are really good too. I've never had a bad experience here, it's always such a treat to stop in. The service is always great, everyone is very friendly!

I like to surprise my students with an occasional donut. The way to a teenager's heart is with Country Donuts! They are OBSESSED and beg for me to bring them more often. These put DD to shame! The honey glazed and iced donuts are favorites every year.

Honestly, before I tried Country Donuts I did not really care for donuts. I have tried dunkin' donuts when someone would bring them to work. They were just ok. Also I remember people going wild for krispy kremes. I tried one and did not understand why? I never went out of my way to buy or eat donuts and they did not excite me. Maybe it would help if I was more of a coffee drinker? THESE DONUTS AT COUNTRY DONUTS ARE FABULOUS!! Now I really like donuts. Go figure? You will not be disappointed!

Get ready to have the best Donuts and Coffee you have ever had in your life . Outstanding and fresh everything is what you will find here, I really wish they still had the chocolate coconut donuts though, they were the only place that made them and these things were to die for. When you bite into the donuts you will see what I mean.. you will find the custard is creamy and dough is soft and melts in your mouth ...I would go on and on about this place but I think I need to get in my car and go get some ...NOW............ !!!

I grew up eating country donuts as a kid, and as an adult, I'm in love with them even more. The donuts are so soft, and have such good flavor. They are the freshest in the morning. Super fast service, and an all around good experience.

THE place to go for fresh doughnuts. I'm not a big fan of doughnuts, usually, but when I do eat them, they MUST be from Country Doughnuts.

Since I'm going on a cross country road trip, taking short breaks, I decided to stop here for breakfast at 6:30 AM! I was so happy to see the staff helping an old man pick his donuts! The staff here is so loving and caring, I wish I had a country donuts where I live! So I got 12 me and the hubby to each get six so we got two each day and didn't have to stop for three days! We were pleasantly surprised! We thought it would be like an average DD but no! It's way more! I know all we got was 12 plain glazed donuts but they were delicious! Next time I'm in McHenry County Illinois, i'm definitely stopping at country donuts again!

24 hour donut shop?? Always time to make the donuts!! Great little donut joint, small inside with a small counter and stools if you want yer coffee and donut diner-style. Donuts were good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the coffee! Very good coffee, just as good as DD if not better. Try it out, glad I stopped in.

My favorite Donut shop ever! Been going since i was a kid, and it only gets better with time. Youll see the same owners and employees have been there forever, and the customer service is quick and friendly. Open 24hrs almost year round its my go to coffee stop no matter the time of night. Dounuts: 10/10 Awesome! You cant go wrong with your choice, they have both Cake and Yeast donuts. Filled and unfilled. Glazed, powdered, frosted, plain. Many options! The champions for me(i have a sweet tooth): Blueberry dount - its a glazed cake with a sugary fresh taste, the glaze keeps it fresh overnight so buy a bunch and eat them all weekend! Vanilla Angel donut - chocolate frosting with a white zigzag, it looks as fun as it tastes. Its white fluffy center is generously filled and more of a frosting(not a custard?) Creamy and super sweet, one is usually enough to fill me. Try one fresh out of their oven and youll never look back. Bagels: 10/10 Massive! There are 4 or 5 choice including: cheese, multigrain, plain, etc. Each are delicious. They will put cream cheese on for you for a small charge(and you can pay for extra, but they are so generous i never need it) they will toast it as well. My favorite bagel: The Cheese bagel - larger then your average bagel with a toasty cheese topping that is enough to be notice but not overwhelming. I would describe it as a dense doughy thick bagel thats soft and moist enough for an easy tear with the teeth. Coffee: 9/10 The coffee is a great no frills taste that goes down smooth. Real classic taste, nothing fancy actually makes it better than most. You can ask and they will add cream, sugar, or a flavored syurp(caramel, vanilla, etc) i've tried them all, i always go back to plain cream and sugar. Why mess with a good thing? The only reason its not a 10/10 is because ive had grounds at the bottom of my cup a few times. Other options include lattes, frapps, hot coco, cider in the fall(from WI, very good hot), milk, juice, pop. You can also buy the beans by the bag to take home, which ive seen many people do. Customer service: 9/10 Fast, talented, willing to help. I love that i have been seeing the same people here for years and when the (who i assume are the) owners are there(which seems like most times) they are friendly and warm and check in with everyone. There is a large window into the kitchen so you can see all the baking going on and everyone in there smiles and seems friendly too. During peak times there are always a BUNCH more employees behind the counter(which is great! Its a popular spot and the line can go out the door in the mornings) but with so many employees during those times, the line always moves FAST. They work hard to serve you quick. The only reason its not 10/10 is not everybody smiles, but hey give them a break: its 5am! Smile at them and they will smile back! Cleanliness/Decor: 8/10 They frequently wipe down the counter, and have the windows cleaned. No visible dust or grime. Even the garbage cans are clean! If a customer leaves things behind on the counter, they are quick to clean up. Food is handled is a hygienic way and its always reassuring to be able to see the kitchen. Its got one single room bathroom which is open to the public. It doesn't look the best, its clean, but just outdated. The stools are fixed to the floor, which i like(keeps things organized) seating is limited, but you can usually find a spot, in warm weather you can sit outside. The stools could use some fresh upholstery. And more seating in general would be nice. But id rather them stay the same then move to a new location, its got a cozy hometown feel that is fun and comforting. Best Donut shop in the world, my husband and i go to A LOT donuts shops. This one, right by home, is always our favorite.

Doughnuts made with quality and craftsmanship second to none. The day old doughnuts put Dunkins to shame. The fresh doughnuts made daily are not easily matched. Dave

  • George H.

OH. EM. GEE! These are the best donuts...EVER!!!! Curse you, Country Donuts!! I will never be able to have donuts anywhere else without trying to compare them to yours. I have had various donuts from here ranging from standard cake to a mind blowing 'coffee roll' (a yeasty, fluffy, spiral of cinnamony goodness). I have made it my personal goal to try every single donut here - I will make that (diet) sacrifice happily! Delicious does not even begin to be enough of a descriptive word for the donuts here!

    (5)
  • George J.

seome fresh donuts. Owner takes pride it what he sells. Cant beat the 1/2 price EARLY in the morning on the day olds that still are probably better than most other stores "fresh" ones

Big THANK YOU shout out goes to Country Donuts, although the location of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation motorcycle Ride for Kids changed to the Grand Geneva Resort, that didn't stop the owners from this amazing neighborhood donut shop from providing their assorted delicious donuts for ALL the volunteers & over 500 participants yesturday morning! They were a fresh, sweet delicious way to start the morning. Thank you again for your kindness!

What's one more Review? The answer is the 50th review for this place. We came here since we were in the neighborhood after we had just finished our lunch and a quick stop into Kohls. Since Country Donuts is only a mile away, why not run in for a couple donuts? Especially a place that has 49 reviews and basically 5 stars. Why drive all this way and not try them out? There is no reason to not stop in so that's what we did. As I was driving west on 14 I noticed the sign and the small shop on the left. I also noticed that it isn't easy getting in if you are coming from the east. As I made my illegal left turn into the parking lot, my eyes focused on the cop car that was just pulling out. I glanced over to him and nothing was done or said. It was almost like he was saying, "Welcome to getting your mind blown and it's ok to make an illegal turn into a donut shop". I never knew that. We went inside and there was no other customer there. It was just my wife, me and the clerk with all those donuts. I went with a double chocolate and an old fashion plain donut. Since we were still pretty full from our lunch we took them to go. Later on we tried them out. The crispiness yet airiness of the cake was terrific and the richness of the chocolate made me realize that these are truly 5 star donuts. The only thing that would have made this experience better would have been if the cop had turned his lights on to stop traffic so I could pull in. To quote Arnold, "I'll be back" and thank you donut cop.

Sooo much better than Dunkin Donuts! I love their Boston Cream and French donuts. Good coffee and hot chocolate as well :) They now have a drive thru-although I never go through it because I love how it smells inside :)

  • Kimberly R.

I had to update my review because I am now also a country donuts coffee drinker! In my original review I said I get my donuts here and my coffee elsewhere. First off, the owner personally responded to me and told me about their coffee, where its from and roasted and how they make their drinks. That alone was amazing but he is right there coffee is really excellent and their iced coffee is my regular morning coffee now! You never have to worry about stale coffee because you can watch hem make fresh espresso every time you order! There is nothing that could be better at this donut shop! Everything is delicious and I have zero complaints!

  • Kim A.

Oh my goodness... Deliciousness! Best donuts around --- made in house! Walked in and wasn't sure what to expect with the outdated decor, but it was so worth it. Got the blueberry donut, and it tasted true to real blueberries!

Having lived in town for quite awhile and eaten my share of Country Donuts. The place is always spotless! Donuts are the best I've ever had. Owners Scott and Larry are two of nicest guys you'll ever meet. A few years ago my neighbor asked how I liked their Pazcki's. I didn't know what she was talking about. Pazcki what? I've never had one! She promptly explained the story behind them. Unfortunately I had to wait almost entire year until Fat Tuesday rolled around again. I promptly placed my order several days in advance for a dozen of these Pazcki's, to be sure I could get them. Wow oh Wow. These are the most amazing donut you'll ever have. It's a slightly larger filled donut, richer dough, and is double filled. One shot of this delicious homemade Buttercream and another shot of either Custard, Black Raspberry, or Strawberry, then covered in powdered sugar. Truly Heaven on Earth. They sell so many Pazcki's that they close off their dining area so there's room to stage all of the pre-orders. (See my photo). The owners and staff dress up in Mardi Gras attire and look like their having fun during the busiest week of their year.

  • Chris B.

Not too many eateries that have a consistent 5 Stars. I'd have to agree. Their Boston Creme is heavenly, as are every donut AND mixed coffee drink they make. Also very fair prices. Beats Dunkin' Donuts by a mile. Make the trip to Crystal Lake on Route 14. You will not be disappointed.

  • D C.

These are the best donuts I have ever had. Even family who come to visit from out of state are incredibly impressed! There is a reason they have been in business for decades!

  • Dee W.

Heavenly donuts!!! Best donuts on the planet when fresh! Most days I have no complaints but on occasion even in the am the donuts are noticing not as fresh. Can't beat this place when they are on point. My office loves when they see me walk in with Country donut boxes.

    (4)
  • Adam R.

Great donuts. Easily better than DD or some other donut chains - are there other donut chains? Either way, do yourself a favor and get your next dozen here instead of at DD or some other place. Pro tip: check out the day old donuts. They can be almost half price and still as delicious.

    (5)
  • Sihun K.

Best doughnuts around. Found the ultimate paczki. Their custard paczki should be illegal. Two fillings make each bite unbelievably good.

    (5)
  • Judi C.

great service and donuts... ! Coffee's not bad either...

    (5)
  • Karen G.

They need to give lessons to other Donuts Shops on how to create a mouth watering, delicious donuts. The French Cruller is my favorite.Every single donuts is the best.

    (5)
  • Andrew S.

Best donuts in town, or pretty much anywhere else I have been. It is open 24 hours, and the donuts are made fresh daily in house. Prices are pretty standard and quality has never been compromised in the 20+ years I have purchased from here. If I ever move, this is the one place I will miss more than anywhere else. If you like donuts, this is the place to go.

    (5)
  • Naté G.

I think I'm hooked! These things are freaking good and it looks like a fun place to hang out and grab some coffee. Tons of variety and everything was fresh. Prices reasonable, local place. Perfect, oh and yum, yum, yummy!

BEST coffee & donuts in town...and paczkis that give new meaning to the phrase FAT Tuesday! So worth every calorie!!!!!!! Great owners too... very generous and supportive of our Crystal Lake community. Love love love this place!!!!!

12 hours after our all day adventure began we made our way home. What is the perfect ending to a day which started with quilts, had a French lunch and dinner with all your husband's siblings? Donut run, duh! And not just any old donuts, no, these were superb donuts. Sometimes it is hard to explain the difference between a perfect donut and just a donut but it is super easy to taste. When your mouth yells YAY and your teeth starting singing, you know you've hit the jackpot. I had a honey dipped which was just the right amount of sweet on top of just the right amount of chewy, kind of a squishy chewy. Yummmmmmmy. I also had a devils food donut. (Do not judge me, it was a 12 hour day!) It was dense which sometimes I do not like but this was dense with flavor and chew and chocolate. I loved it and my husband adored his French crullers. Will we return? Is the mayor of Chicago a democrat? Of course we'll be back. I will make sure of it.

    (5)
  • Robert B.

Simply put, they make a great donut.

    (5)
  • Tiffany T.

Absolutely my go to place, for any donuts! I went to the on in Elgin and they are sub-par next to this location! I love coming here, they are so yummy and the price is great!! I am so glad they are close, the environment here is just as wonderful as the food! The Angel cream are delicious and the cinnamon coffee rolls are amazing! This is definitely the best doughnut shop around!!

    (5)
  • Ben S.

Got Donets from here every now and then before work and every time the donuts were excellent!! Their hot Choclate was great as well.

    (5)
  • Jerry G.

It's a weekend tradition to grab a coffee and some donuts with my son at Country Donuts. Again, a must in the Crystal Lake hood! I'd give it 5 stars, but there have been a couple occasions when a donut or 2 wasn't cooked all the way thru. I guess that shows how good they are that they can't get them out the door fast enough!

    (4)
  • Valued C.

Love the coffee roll, my favorite! Owner really great. Long line on a Saturday morn out the door, and he offers a free donut to anyone standing in line. Their donuts beat the rest.

    (5)
  • Louise S.

Their honey dipped yeast donuts are way better than Krispie Kreme

  • Jen J.

I'm. in. love.....with Country Donuts! Made my first trip in this afternoon after years of passing by this little place. Most places bake their donuts overnight to have fresh in the morning, so I was a little concerned about the donuts being dry or old tasting as I was going in around 1pm. Their shelves were fully stocked with many different kinds of donuts. Scott, part owner, said they made a new batch just before my arrival. He was very pleasant and friendly and we chatted a little bit about their history. I picked a black raspberry-filled donut for myself, then got cinnamon, strawberry sprinkle, and chocolate raised donuts for the rest of the family. After one bite of the black raspberry-filled donut, I was hooked! The texture was very soft and fluffy. It wasn't overly sweet and the black raspberry filling was quite flavorful! Sometimes donuts have a weird texture from too much oil/lard and it leaves a film in your mouth. Not so with this one!! I don't eat donuts often (mainly because they're not very healthy) but I am reconsidering--especially since I work down the street! Thanks, Scott, for your generosity! ;-)

    (5)
  • Adam L.

Yea... I keep coming back. This place is NOT good for your waist. But their donuts are sooooo good.

    (5)
  • Lauren W.

I am a full supporter of small businesses. That being said, I looked to Country Donuts to help me buy over 6 dozen donuts as an end of year treat for my students. The service was great and the donuts were delicious. I enjoyed the fact that the donuts were fresh, I could get a wide variety, and it met the needs of my students' palates. Thank you, Country Donuts!

    (5)
  • Jennifer J.

Every time I go in to Country Donuts whether it is early morning or late night they always have a variety of donuts to choose from! I have been going here for many years and they are reliably fresh and yummy donuts. My family especially love the coffee cinnamon roll, the bavarian cream donuts, and the traditional iced donut. I also like that the workers are friendly and genuinely smile and seem happy to see you there.

  • Rebecca B.

This is it! I have found the best donut shop in this state! I am so happy! These donuts are fantastic, light, tasty, not greasy nor do they taste like old oil. A few weeks ago I had to have a donut and DD was the only one around. YUCK! Stale at 11 am, greasy and just plain gross. Country Donuts is perfect. I will drive over 30 minutes just to have one. I tried the Boston Cream-a dream come true, the cinnamon roll, apple spice and my fave-Raised Twisted Sugar. I have not had a decent raised sugar donut in years and this is it! So happy that I just happened upon this place. Now I will have to do some extra workouts, but so worth it. I think I'm in love! And the service was great too! Come to Schaumburg!!!!!!!!!!!

    (5)
  • Jacob S.

I have been here several times since moving to Crystal Lake last year and I have never been disappointed. These are the BEST donuts I have ever had, period. Open 24 hours which is awesome! When family from Wisconsin comes to visit they always make a pit stop here as well. Also try their fruit muffins, most excellent.

    (5)
  • Jared W.

This is a GREAT donut place. I could tell I was in for a treat when I saw how busy it was on a Thursday during mid morning. I can only imagine a Saturday or a Sunday. We got a dozen of a variety of donuts, and they hit the mark on every one. They offer a very wide variety to choose from, so I'm looking forward to going back to have more. Along with that, we tried the "Blendaccino," which is apparently supposed to be a knockoff of the Starbucks Frappuccino, but I actually liked the Blendaccino better. It was almost like a milkshake. They have locations in Crystal Lake and Elgin, so if you're close to either, definitely check it out!

Serving good-ass donuts 25/7. Yes, you heard right. They EVEN service that extra hour for daylight savings, and I don't think we should cheat them on it. We spotted this donut joint from down the road and pulled off one hell of an epic U-turn to get our hands on some of dem donuts. They've got really cute old-school coffee/donut shop style seating, just like from in the movies... or Gilmore Girls, if you're into that type of thing. The kid behind the counter was super cute... and knew his stuff about the deez donuts. The boo and I talked it over before entering and had made a pact that we stuck to, that we would not allow ourselves to order more than a 1/2 dozen donuts and a hot apple cider. With a little help from our counter friend, we decided on 4 cake donuts (apple spice, pumpkin spice, blueberry glazed cake and cantaloupe) and 2 regular (a chocolate-glazed ring and another seasonal that I can't remember because that donut (and the rest of his little donut friends) only lasted about 4 seconds in the box after we paid for everything. These donuts were so good I didn't even need to chew... they just melted in your mouth and creamed down you throat... which is probably the most disgusting way of putting that, but it's true and you'd understand completely if you just gave Country Donuts a chance. Our total for a 20oz insanely good hot cider, 1/2 dozen donuts and some damn friendly service was $5... but the price I'm now left paying is that other donuts will likely never satisfy me the way these did. The bar has just been raised, folks. How do I like deez (do)nuts? Well sir, I don't. ... I LOVE them and I want them in my mouth.

Love country doughnuts! No other doughnuts anywhere around the country are as good! My husband was lucky enough to grow up on these delicious delectable tasty treats!! I've been spoiled the last six years since I was introduced to country doughnuts and cannot eat a doughnut anywhere else. Each doughnut is light, Fluffy, fresh, and tasty to the last morsel!! When we lived out of state I craved these more than Chicago style pizza! Would make my hub and drive from McHenry when I was pregnant to get a dozen just for me! ;) We now drive from the lakefront in Waukegan all the way to crystal lake to get our tasty eats!! Love how if you go in on any day you see the staff if not the owner and his father all diligently working making fresh dough for amazingly fresh doughnuts like no where else on the planet!! Light and fluffy every time!! Wonderful staff and service with a smile continuous for years!! Love love love!!

  • Walter J.

Country donuts has been a Crystal Lake institution for as long as I can remember! I hadn't been there in probably 20 years, but for some reason I decided that a donut (or 4) sounded good. So I stopped in to grab a dozen donuts and some coffee. Amazingly, the place hasn't changed a bit. The same curved bar, the same donut display in the back, and fortunately the same great donuts! One thing that I didn't remember was how small the place is, or maybe I'm just bigger (especially after the donuts, lol). I remember going into Country donuts in high school in the late 80's and getting donuts, and when I was a little kid going there when we first moved to Crystal Lake. Country Donuts and the Freeze... two places that have lasted the test of time. If you are looking for tasty donuts and some really good fresh brewed coffee, definitely stop by Country Donuts. I guarantee their donuts are 1000% better than Dunkin!!

I will never find a better boston creme donut anywhere else. Not even in Boston. This one was just perfectly sweetened (probably less than the average person would prefer). Great creme and doughiness. No frills, just donut business. =]

This is an update since my last review of Country Donuts in Dec 2010. A year-and-a-half ago, I left the hustle & bustle of the NW burbs and moved out to the "country" town of Huntley. While Huntley, unfortunately, is seeing quite a bit of growth and urbanization, there is still not much here, as far as commercial businesses go. I had an appointment with one of my Dr.s in Crystal Lake. When leaving the Dr., I drove near Country Donuts. I thought "wow, it's been a couple of years since I had any of their wares", so I stopped in and bought a half-dozen. After dinnerthat evening, my dessert-desire sweet tooth kicked in, so I brewed some de-caf, and when it was ready I grabbed the donuts. Holy Cow! They were so darn good, I ate 3 of them . They seemed even better than I had remembered them! In the morning while reading my e-mail, I felt myself getting hungry, noticed that it was nearly noon, so the donuts were handy, and I ate the ones remaining, for breakfast. The donuts from Country Donuts in Crystal lake are as good as ever, and in my opinion, better than any I've had from anywhere else. It is a good thing, health-wise that I didn't buy a dozen. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I'd give them a 7-star rating!

Hands down best donuts in the area! The donuts are made fresh daily and multiple times during the day. Skip the chain donuts and come here for quality that cannot be surpassed. The chocolate iced angel cream donuts are my favorite and seem to melt in the mouth! When out of town family comes to visit, they are always pleased when I have picked up a dozen Country Donuts!

First off... Donuts are underrated in the pastry world and Country Donuts proves that a donut done right can kick a cupcake or cake pops behind. Also, donuts are not just for breakfast. HELLO! This place is open 24 hours! The donuts are to die for. Seriously. I am pretty sure I died and went to heaven after biting into a red velvet donut from Country Donuts. Simply perfection. Beware this place can get busy, but its worth the small wait.

Chain store donuts? Gas station donuts? Never again. I have had the best in donuts that there is, and they are Country Donuts. At least one Sunday a month for nearly 10 years we would pick up a dozen for the family for breakfast. Now everyone is groen up and m the kids have moved out, and I hear once in a while from them, usually on a call on a Sunday, about how they miss Country Donuts and they bemoan the fact that no other donut will do anymore. Also, the wife says if its possible for anything to be better than their donuts, it would be their coffee roll!!!

  • Franklin D.

OK I have to say, there is a Yelp "check in" deal where you get 18 donuts for the price of twelve. How can I say no to this? There are two of us eating donuts...that works out to nine a piece. yeah I think I can eat 9 donuts this morning. =] Love the blueberry cake, buttermilk, and french (chocolate covered and otherwise). Plus, donuts are scientifically proven to make you happy. These are made fresh daily, by hand...I know because I can see donuts being punched out of slabs of dough through the glass window into the kitchen. Still wish there were more seats in here. Ah well.

The Honey Dip Donut is amazing! Especially when they're still slightly warm! I have cravings. Their coffee is very good, too. I like the true donut shop feel with the 60's style wrap around counter. I usually use the drive thru, but it's fun to go inside and watch the guys making the donuts through the window.

    (5)
  • Carole w.

I have been there three times at different times of the day and twice there were VERY few donuts! The donuts are awesome. The problems is there are no donuts!!! Doubt I'll make the 5 mile drive from my house just to be disappointed, again!!!

  • Rob L.

    Best donuts in town!

    (5)
  • Mike C.

Best donuts in the area! We drive 15 minutes and pass 3 Duncan Donuts, 2 Jewel's and i'm sure a bunch of other places that sell Donuts just to get Country Donuts. Never had a bad donut here! Try it, you will be HOOKED!

    (5)
  • Jason P.

Best donut shop around! It's unfortunate that they got rid of almost all my favorite flavors of donuts. But they have like four kinds of jellies? Lucky for me there is another location in Elgin, so worth the trip! They have all the donuts that the Crystal Lake one got rid of. Toasted coconut, peanut, chocolate coconut, butter crunch, and my favorite german chocolate! I'll still go the the Crystal Lake one to pick up a quick breakfast for the kids, but this big kid is going to Elgin to get his.

  • Ashley A.

The honey dipped are quite possibly the best glazed donuts I've ever had! They're super light and delicious. But even better than that, are the Boston cream donuts. The custard filling is just right and the chocolate frosting is always perfect! They do run out fast though! Best to make a morning trip when they have everything available!

    (5)
  • Ken K.

Don't know why I gave this place a 4 before - must have been a bad day - best donuts I've ever had - the red velvet and Boston creams are the best!!!!!

    (5)
  • Ruth Ann M.

I absolutely love this place because it makes me feel like I stepped back into simple times where people had time to stop and enjoy a coffee and donuts and chat with neighbors. The decor hasn't been updated since Vietnam, but the donuts are made fresh daily. I highly recommend the Bavarian cream, honey dip, the red velvet and the blueberry cake donuts. They have a drive-thru, but I think if you're gonna go, you gotta do it right. Stop and smell the circular desserts.

Almost heaven, Country Donuts Country Donuts has a good vibe. It is set up for you to get in and out with your donuts but if you feel like you can sit down, relax, and have a couple of delicious donuts washed down with some coffee and/or cider. So were many choices, seasonal ones too. So we grabbed a few donuts and sat down to have a couple and saved the rest for later. I had a great time just sitting there chating and feasting on the delicious treats. We got a wide array of donuts but my favorite were the fall seasonal donuts, pumpkin and apple spice. However, the blueberry was a serious contender and if it was not fall I think it would have been the clear winner. We also grabbed an apple cider, hot and fresh from the farm. It was delicious and my only regret was not getting a gallon of the stuff to-go. The service was great and the price was not to bad either. The hardest part was having the self control to only eat two in the store and save the rest for later. Of course they were not as great the next day but they were still greatly enjoyed. Dine-in or carry-out Country Donuts is for me!

    (5)
  • Grant D.

They must put something in the dough...as these are the best donuts you can find anywhere. I've turned on a lot of people to them and their first bite confirms my hype. Especially good are the seasonal Apple donuts as well as the Boston Crème and Buttermilk. A dozen barely feeds a family of four because they're just too good!

best donuts around all really fresh and very tastey

  • Chelsea L.

Bandwagon officially hopped. Best donuts BY FAR. If we have to take donuts to work and they're not from CD, we get yelled at. Their coffee is pretty good, but my favorite thing by far is when they steam fresh cider for the best glass of cider you could ever ask for on a chilly fall morning. Paired with a still-hot-from-the-fryer cake donut? YUM.

  • Jim L.

OMG SO GOOD!!! oh. sorry. did not mean to take the Lord's name in vain in this wholesome midwest.

Best. Donuts. Ever. Seriously. Great quality donuts made fresh all day every day. Funny staff, good coffee, great donuts. Apple fritters made my day. 24 hours for you weirdos too.

  • Brian S.

My kids love donuts and especially Country Donuts. The shop is relatively small and dated with the typical soda fountain style stools and the Formica counters but that's not why I go. :) Buy them by the dozen and take them home for the kiddies. My favorites are the double chocolate cake, the raspberry jelly filled. My kids love the cake donuts with sprinkles. They are open 24/7 and going in the early morning hours whilst some flavors are still hot wins me points with the "She-from-on-high". I pass 2 Dunkin Donut locations to get to this place. No comparison. Donuts make the world a better place!

    (5)
  • Peter V.

I bought 3 dozen of the paczkis for Fat Tuesday and they were out of this world. Totally amazing. I can't wait for next year.

Rude service. My dad went in just to get 3 donuts and they laughed in his face. Will never go there no matter how good their donuts are

O donuts how my family and I love thee. (Thees? Thous? How would one make plural thee?) I digress. I am so happy we found this place a week or two after we moved to Crystal Lake. Unpretentious and delicious and the employees are super nice! Why do I mention the unpretentiousness? Because of late everything food wise has become boutique-y and trendy and hipster-y. That's fine, I enjoy a nice trendy spot when the occasion arises. But when I bring my kids here for donuts I don't worry that they will break some fancy sculpture and I don't worry that I'll spend all of their college funds on donuts. This place is cute in its simplicity; a few tables, the usual beverage selections, (coffees, tea, milk, etc) a beautiful array of donuts. Its easy to relax here and discuss your day with a four year old (or any year old for that matter) over a buttercrunch donut and glass of milk. Also they are delish to go as well, we usually get a dozen saying we'll freeze the extras, but we don't because they're usually gone by the next day.

  • Dan G.

This is the best traditional donut shop I have ever been to. They don't stray from the classics. Amazing glazed, powdered, old fashion, crawlers, Boston creme, and jellies galore. The donuts and the coffee are always fresh, from 9am to 4pm to 2am. Generally friendly and the inside is something out of a 50s diner. I have spent many of my teenage life drinking black coffee and devouring these delicious sweets. Any time I come back to CL I have to stop here. If you are heading down Rt. 14 you must stop here, it will change your world.

    (5)
  • Patrick H.

By boys and I have been going here for ten years. These are by far the best in the county! The coffee is getting much better too!

  • Erik M.

Dear Yelp...please add an option for 6 stars so the loyal Country Donuts fans can have something better than what you offer us to show our appreciation for the masterful goodness that is Country Donuts. I think it is still legal to marry a donut in this state right?

    (5)
  • Matt M.

FRESH!!! I miss these doughnuts! here in California these dont compare, they are made with love! Next time im going back thats gonna be my first stop

  • Crystal L.

I really like Country Donuts, that is when I don't have to eat a gooey lump. This is the second time in a week and a half that I got a sloppy mess in my bag from Country Donuts! Donuts do not do well in bags, especially when someone does not know how to pack donuts in them. Maybe they should dump the bags and get smaller boxes. Crystal Lake location

    (2)
  • D S.

Country Donuts will make you think twice about any other donut shop again, namely that DD place. You can truly taste the difference. The donuts are warm and thicker. They are better frosted and better filled. You are not going here for your health, but rather for the best donuts you have ever had. I can honestly say that. It is worth a try, as a donut and a coffee is priced around $2 it will not break the bank. If you are in the area and have not checked it out you need to. This is the type of local, hometown place that makes me happy to live here. Add Country Donuts to your short list of local favorites.

    (5)
  • Marin C.

It is pretty hard to screw up donuts. This place gets it all right. They have donuts & a few kinds of muffins too. Coffee buns were a winner, boston creme too, along with the apple fritter omg. Carrot muffin I had a few days later was none to shabby either. Do yourself a favor and come here if you are in a 50-100 mi radius. It's open 24 hrs, so you can drop on by anytime. Sugar, evil temptress, so delicious.

If crack came in the form of small balls of flour coated with bits of sugar sprinkle goodness, then I'd quickly fail any drug test. I'd never be employed. I'd be a donut crack wh*** on the streets in suburbia. Donuts are my drug of choice. Especially Country Donuts. Holy hell, they are my sugar rush obsession. I've been eating here since the early 80's. It hasn't changed much since then. My dad would lift me up to the window and I'd watch the donut man (always the same man) making homemade donuts. As a kid, this ritual was pretty cool. Almost every Saturday we'd stop for a donut and a chocolate milk. Sometimes I'd get a Strawberry jelly donut covered in sugar, other times I'd get the Butternut or the Chocolate Long John. Lemme tell you, this place is the same, and just as good as when I was a kid. And now that I'm an adult, we go here to nurse a soon to be hangover. Because, you see, this place is always open. It's that awesome. It's cute, it's old-fashioned, and it's a little bit of drug induced happiness. The happy, my belly is full kind of stupor.

  • Lisa P.

Great donuts, fresh coffee, and a counter if you want to eat there. There are day old dozens at 1/2 price that are still fresher than most of the grocery stores and quickie marts "fresh" ones. The prices are good, too. My nephew always liked the hot chocolate, a coffee and 2 crullers works for me. Mmmmm. The parking lot is not very big, but the service is very fast, so a spot will open up quick. If needed, there is parking on the side street as well.

    (5)
  • Justin B.

Love donuts? You will love them more if you have a few donuts at Country Donuts. In Crystal Lake, they are open 24 hours, so if you are feeling a donut right now, get in the car and head over there. Always fresh and always delicious, you will enjoy eating at Country Donuts.

Best donuts I've had in Illinois....and close second to in the country ;) Great place, friendly staff and good service. You don't find many donut shops like this anymore. A real hidden treat!

    (5)
  • V P.

Definately the best donut shop around. This is a place that actually cares about the products they are serving to people. Nothing like fresh donuts from this place.

    (5)
  • Beth T.

Good old fashion donut shop. The donuts are always good, the service is quick and if you sing the Indiana University Fight Song you can get a free donut (found this out when I wore an IU sweatshirt into the shop one day and the donut maker came running out and made me the offer...I am not to proud to sing for a dinner). Mmmm free donut!

  • Tes S.

THESE DONUTS ARE TO DIE FOR!!!!! This place is fantastic. It's an adorable mom and pop shop that is crazy on the weekends, yet they seems to be so organized. I don't know how they do what they do, but it sure keeps me coming back!

    (5)
  • Rachel S.

These are definitely the best donuts I've ever eaten. In fact, be warned. You may never be able to enjoy Dunkin or Krispy Kreme or bakery donuts again after stopping by this place!

    (5)
  • Mike S.

I grew up in Crystal Lake, moving away in 1990. Every time anyone in my family gets back there, we always make a point of stopping for donuts. They are the BEST!!! Probably the best in the country. As in Homer Simpson finger-licking "aw Marge" good. Apple fritters are to die for and their plain glazed and sugar donuts rock too. I wish I could open a franchise out east where I live - I would rake in the dough (no pun intended).

  • Cloud D.

I've been going to Country Donuts since 1983. I travel on business extensively and have never had a better donut. You won't find many donut shops that still make donuts by hand. If you visit here don't hold up the line by taking an hour agonizing over which donuts to pick for your dozen; they're all great. Personally, I just select whatever was the last out of the kitchen; there's nothing better than WARM Country Donuts.

    (5)
  • Erik O.

Irresistible cinnamon buns, available only weekends, and even then you have got to get there early. Ridiculously perfect. I promised my wife I'd cut down to one visit a month, and I literally count down the weeks.

    (5)
  • Dave E.

Plain and simply the BEST DAMN DONUTS around !!!!!!!!!! nothing else to say.

    (5)
  • Deb O.

Just about the only time I eat donuts now is when I visit my Mom, and she sneaks out early one morning to buy a dozen Country Donuts. Their jelly Bismarks are just the way I remember the ones my grandmother used to buy from the bakery way on the south side of Chicago. Carbs be damned...a pot of coffee, a few donuts, and I'm ready to go!

    (5)
  • Nicholas S.

Now donuts are REAL here. Dunkin' Donuts just doesn't have the same feeling. Also, their donuts aren't even CLOSE to being as good. This is the place where the old people can meet and read their newspapers. Country donuts has the best iced rings, donut holes, glazed and of course, sugared jellies.

    (5)
  • Maryann P.

Country Donuts is one of the few places in this town that is open 24hrs every day, which is great. I often make late night trips to this donut shop with friends. It is located on Rt, 14 which is only about 5 minutes from my house. They serve a wide variety of donuts, even though your choices become less and less as the clock ticks toward the morning. My most recent trip to this shop, which happens to be last night, went as usual. I went in, ordered my hot chocolate and a donut, then sat outside next to the giant can ashtray. The only difference was that I paid $2.86, which is much more than it used to be. Over the years I've watched the prices for a donut go up by 10 cents nearly every year. While this is most likely not the businesses fault, but the rising costs everywhere, paying $3 for SwissMiss hot choclate and a donut is rather sad. Overall, it's a convenient place to hang out late at night. Unless of course you like coffee and donuts in the morning. The staff is decently friendly, and they now have an espresso machine which brews up delicious cappuccinos and mocha's all day every day. If you don't mind the rather weird, and rather eclectic regulars, this is the place to be.

Heavenly donuts!!! Best donuts on the planet when fresh! Most days I have no complaints but on occasion even in the am the donuts are noticing not as fresh. Can't beat this place when they are on point. My office loves when they see me walk in with Country donut boxes.

  • Adam R.

Great donuts. Easily better than DD or some other donut chains - are there other donut chains? Either way, do yourself a favor and get your next dozen here instead of at DD or some other place. Pro tip: check out the day old donuts. They can be almost half price and still as delicious.

Best doughnuts around. Found the ultimate paczki. Their custard paczki should be illegal. Two fillings make each bite unbelievably good.

They need to give lessons to other Donuts Shops on how to create a mouth watering, delicious donuts. The French Cruller is my favorite.Every single donuts is the best.

Love the coffee roll, my favorite! Owner really great. Long line on a Saturday morn out the door, and he offers a free donut to anyone standing in line. Their donuts beat the rest.

I'm. in. love.....with Country Donuts! Thanks, Scott, for your generosity! ;-)

Yea... I keep coming back. This place is NOT good for your waist. But their donuts are sooooo good.

These are the best donuts I have ever had. Even family who come to visit from out of state are incredibly impressed! There is a reason they have been in business for decades!

I will never find a better boston creme donut anywhere else. Not even in Boston. This one was just perfectly sweetened (probably less than the average person would prefer). Great creme and doughiness. No frills, just donut business. =]

Ah well.

Moved from Chicago and by far the best donuts out in crystal lake ! Try the buttermilk donuts ! The apple fritter !! French! There all fantastic ! Don't waste your time at Dunkin donuts! This place is way way better ! Prices can't beat em! This donut shop is almost too close For me and my donut loving family try them and fall in love

  • Kristen S.

  • Tim M.

    (5)
  • Jason G.

  • Carole w.

I have been there three times at different times of the day and twice there were VERY few donuts! The donuts are awesome. The problems is there are no donuts!!! Doubt I'll make the 5 mile drive from my house just to be disappointed, again!!!

    (4)

YUM.

Dear Yelp...please add an option for 6 stars so the loyal Country Donuts fans can have something better than what you offer us to show our appreciation for the masterful goodness that is Country Donuts. I think it is still legal to marry a donut in this state right?

Definately the best donut shop around. This is a place that actually cares about the products they are serving to people. Nothing like fresh donuts from this place.

  • Flo M.

Simply the best donuts I've ever had! Last week one of our customers surprised us with Country donuts. They were literally gone in 10 minutes. I have to admit, donuts are my weakness... I had 3. The old fashions melt in your mouth.

    (5)
  • Amy K.

    (5)
  • Judith K.

Linda h. Crystal lake, il Country donuts they are off the hook!! Been around here for bout 20 years and their quality has never wavered. Delicious and good anytime. Better than Duncan donuts! !

  • Barbara P.

  • John D.

I like to surprise my students with an occasional donut. The way to a teenager's heart is with Country Donuts! They are OBSESSED and beg for me to bring them more often. These put DD to shame! The honey glazed and iced donuts are favorites every year.

Donuts were good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the coffee! Very good coffee, just as good as DD if not better. Try it out, glad I stopped in.

Doughnuts made with quality and craftsmanship second to none. The day old doughnuts put Dunkins to shame. The fresh doughnuts made daily are not easily matched. Dave

OH. EM.
